Tivoli Inventory 4.0
Course Description This course teaches students to administer and implement Tivoli Inventory and Scalable Collection Service. Students will learn to collect and store inventory data, and to use queries provided by Tivoli to interrogate the database and display the information collected by Tivoli Inventory. Students will learn to perform inventories of the hardware and software present in their enterprise environment. Students will also learn to collect custom information, such as user-supplied information, and DMI information. This training is done in a classroom environment with multiple opportunities to practice concepts by performing hands-on student lab exercises.

Objectives This course enables you to build the necessary knowledge and skills to:

Describe the basics of a Tivoli Inventory environment
Gather hardware information using Tivoli-provided Inventory scanners
Gather software information using Tivoli-provided Inventory scanners
Gather configuration files using Tivoli-provided Inventory scanners
View Inventory data from the configuration repository
Manage when, where and how Inventory distributions and collections occur
Gather custom system information
Install and configure a Tivoli Inventory environment based on information
requirements, network configuration, and TME configuration
Implement Scalable Collection Service

Who will benefit from the course? This course is intended for Tivoli Administrators responsible for configuration and administration of the Tivoli Inventory application. Also, individuals responsible for using the results of the Inventory data for monitoring physical inventory and software license accounting - asset management. This course is only a portion of the knowledge needed to prepare the student for the certification exam, and should be combined with real-world experience prior to becoming a certified consultant.
Required Skills/Knowledge This course is designed for system and network administrators who are responsible for maintaining inventory information for their enterprise. The following skills are expected:

1. Working knowledge of hardware and software concepts for NT, UNIX, and Windows PC operating systems.

2. Working knowledge in the use of Tivoli Framework specifically:
Use of the Tivoli desktop.
Understand the concept of creation and populating an administrator's desktop.
Understand the concept of creation and use of policy regions.
Understand the concept of creation and use of profiles and profile managers.
Understand the concept of distribution of profiles to subscribers.
Understand of the concept of authorisation roles within Tivoli Framework.

3. Knowledge of basic inventory control and system configuration management concepts.

4. Knowledge of RDBMS and SQL concepts (does not need to be a db admin).

5. Working knowledge of MIBs (Management Information Base).
