Tivoli NetView for OS/390 1.4 Automation Facilities
Duration

4 days

Description This course introduces the student to the Automation Facilities of the Tivoli NetView for OS/390 (NetView) product. The class is concerned with the PROCEDURAL options, but the facilities discussed are also relevant to the ENTERPRISE and DISTRIBUTED options. It discusses NetView as a message processor and indicates the message flows in an OS/390 NetView environment. It also discusses how NetView can manage ('screen') commands issued by operators from OS/390 MCS consoles.

The NetView facilities dealt with comprise the following:

The Automation Table (plus AUTOBL, AUTOMAN and AUTOTEST commands)
The ASSIGN and Timer commands
Other relevant NetView commands
NetView standard initialization
The Hardware Monitor Alert mechanisms
MVS Command Management
Policy and Calendar features.

This course also covers the OS/390 Message Processing Facility (MPF). It does NOT deal with the automation facilities available when using the NetView Enterprise options (for example, Resource Object Data Manager [RODM]), the Systems Automation for OS/390 (formerly AOC/MVS) product, or the AON/MVS component of NetView.

Objectives Upon successful completion, the student will be able to do the following:

Configure any required MPF Tables
Create NetView Automation Tables as desired and use the AUTOTBL,
AUTOMAN and AUTOTEST commands
Use the NetView ASSIGN and Timer commands plus the Hardware Monitor
Alerts mechanisms to facilitate automation processes
Understand how to create style sheets to customise the features used by
NetView, to influence the initialization process, and to implement installation-
specific automation.
Use the MVS Command Management feature to screen commands issued by operators and other users
Understand how the Policy and Calendar features may be used within an
automation application.

Note that the course is taught at the Release 4 level of the Tivoli NetView product. Not all the content will apply to earlier releases.
