Tivoli Monitoring - Advanced Resource Monitoring
Course Description

IBM Tivoli Monitoring is an efficient, reliable, automated tool that provides IT administrators the capabilities to closely monitor the status and performance of mission-critical distributed applications and computing resources. This course provides the knowledge and skills needed to configure, customize, and develop IBM Tivoli Monitoring Resource Models. This course includes multiple opportunities for you to practice your skills in a complex lab environment. A series of carefully constructed hands-on activities allow you to immediately reinforce the important lessons presented in this course.

Objectives

This course enables you to build the necessary knowledge and skills to:

Describe CIM, WMI, and Unix based CIM implementations
Describe the components of the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Workbench
Understand the detailed architecture of resource model elements
Use the Workbench to create and customize advanced resource models for
both Windows and Unix/Linux
Employ tools and techniques to debug advanced resource models
Describe the tools available to migrate DM Classic Edition monitors
Use the Workbench to convert DM Classic Edition monitors to resource models

Who will benefit from the course?

This course is intended for System Administrators who will customize, and deploy resource model based monitors.

Required Skills/Knowledge

The following skills and areas of knowledge are required:

Experience with the Tivoli desktop
Experience using the IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1 product
Working knowledge of policy regions
Ability to create and use profiles and profile managers
Ability to distribute profiles to subscribers
Understanding of scripting languages such as Java Script and Visual Basic
script is an advantage
NT and Unix Administration skills. .

Recommended Pre-requisites Before attending this course, you should attend the Tivoli Management Framework course or possess equivalent knowledge or skill, as defined in the description for that course. You should also have attended the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation and Administration class or possess equivalent knowledge or skills.
