Course Description

IBM Tivoli Monitoring is an efficient, reliable, automated tool that provides IT administrators the capabilities to closely monitor the status and performance of to mission-critical distributed applications and computing resources. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to configure, operate, customize and troubleshoot IBM Tivoli Monitoring.

The focus of this course is on how we can migrate from the Distributed Monitoring Classic Edition way of monitoring to the resource modelling way of monitoring, using IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1

Learn how to migrate Tivoli Distributed Monitoring Classic Edition 3.7 monitoring
solutions to IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1 solutions
Use CIM tools and how to write WMI Queries (WQL)
Troubleshoot the Resource Modelling engine
Use the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Web Health Console

Who will benefit from the course? This course is intended for System Administrators who will set up, configure, and use IBM Tivoli Monitoring.
Required Skills/Knowledge Windows NT and Unix Administration skills.
Pre-requisites Before attending this course, you should attend the Tivoli Management Framework course and IBM Tivoli Monitoring Course, or possess equivalent knowledge or skill, as defined in the description for those courses.
Course Outline

Unit 1: Introduction
Introduction into course, objectives, Overview of IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1 components.

Unit 2: Installation
Explanation of lab environment, installating and upgrading to IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1.

Unit 3: Resource Models

Resource Models Analysis of resource models. Creating and migrating to resource modeling profiles (Tmw2kProfile). Working with the migration helper script (dmae_sentryprofile_analyser.sh) and the mapping process. Compatibility mode.

Unit 4: Profile Configuration

Configuring profiles on CLI. Mdist 2 profile distribution.

Unit 5: Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting the resource modeling engine on Windows and Unix. The Java extension (DMX) on Unix resource models. Serviceability tasks. WMI diagnostic tools on Windows endpoints (wbemtest. cimstudio).

Unit 6: Web Health Console
