Tivoli Business Systems Manager 2.1 Fundamentals
Course Description

This course provides the foundation on which an implementor, administrator or operator will build more advanced skills. Students learn to use the IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager console and Web console to manage and report on the availability of enterprise systems. Students learn to navigate and view resource information within a business system using IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager's sophisticated views. Students learn to respond to Tivoli Business Systems Manager alerts by identifying, locating and taking ownership of system events. Students also learn to generate reports. This is an instructor-led course. Hands-on activities are provided. This course is a pre-requisite to IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager for Administrators, IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager for Implementors, and IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager for zOS for Implementors.

Objectives

Describe IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager including such concepts as
resource, resource hierarchy, business system, events, alerts, and
propagation.
Perform basic operator tasks such as logging into the IBM Tivoli Business
Systems Manager Console, setting Critical Resource Lists and managing
workspaces.
Manage IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager resources by locating resources and viewing resource properties using the IBM Tivoli Business Systems
Manager Console and Web console.
Identify availability problems by confirming IBM Tivoli Business Systems
Manager server health, identifying alerts, viewing events, and isolating root-
cause events.
Manage the problem-determination workflow by taking and closing ownership
of alerts, creating and managing notes, and creating problem tickets.
Generate reports from real time and historical data
Monitor CICS files, CICS transactions, and OS/390 batch processes.

IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager Administrator - Because this course is a prerequisite for the BM Tivoli Business Systems Manager for Administrator’s
course, some students will be administrator-candidates learning basics and
operator skills.
IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager Implementor - Because this course is a
prerequisite for the IBM Tivoli Business Systems Implementor course, some
students will be implementor-candidates learning basics and operator skills.
Availability Troubleshooter - Most students will use IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager to improve and manage the process of identifying, isolating and
resolving availability issues for enterprise systems they manage.
Availability Decision-Maker - Some students will use IBM Tivoli Business
Systems Manager current and historical data for such diverse jobs as managing support staff, analyzing the business impact of system availability, determining availability trends, and planning future systems growth.

Required Skills/Knowledge Working knowledge of the Windows operating system environment
Ability to use Windows editors: notepad, regedit
Ability to navigate through windowing applications
Working knowledge of an internet browser
Working knowledge of their company's enterprise subsystems and components as related to their day-to-day job duties
Recommended Pre-requisites Before attending this course, you should attend the Tivoli Management Framework course or possess equivalent knowledge or skill, as defined in the description for that course.
